CAYAC Manifesto

CAYAC Manifesto

CAYAC is a fellowship of young (at heart) artists inspired by the wilderness of Northern Ontario and the communities who dwell within. Hailing from the small neighboring towns of Cobalt, Coleman township and Latchford they draw support from each other as they create art that reflects their shared experiences and perspective. CAYAC members share a passion for the creative process and are of an adventurous nature.
As artists supporting artists, CAYAC has invented a space for local artist friends to practice their artistic skills individually or in group participation while learning from each other. To date our focus has centered around live figure sketches and outdoor live drawing. We share our progress and projects with our members and followers through private instagram groups and on our page as well as the public during special events.
Our most recent projects have included a temporary life sized chalk art mural for the first ever Pride Parade in our area, live painting and drawings at our weekly summer arts festival, Art in the Park and live portraits at our local National Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow. CAYAC has also hosted our first ever solo gallery show “ECOLOGY” for founding member Jennifer Pereira.
Your support will help with the future development of this collective as individual artists maintain and grow their artistic practices and support the collective in bringing more meaningful art to the surrounding communities in the form of live art and art shows.

Presently CAYAC meets weekly for drawing and painting at the Bunker 63 Silver st. Cobalt. We have additional outings (hike/kayak/bike) to various Plein Air locations including lookouts and caves characteristic of the area.
We hope to continue to attend local events as performative artists providing live art entertainment and to host more group shows - virtual shows can be delivered on our social media platforms using the Insta 360 1x2 Camera.

Ecology reception. A great success!

Ecology reception. A great success!

After a fantastic turn out for the opening reception of Ecology I decided to host a second in the form of a morning coffee meet and greet. This was my first solo show as well as the first ever galley show to hang in our historic century old dynamite bunker known to the old miners as the "Powder Room".
Settling in the historic silver town of Cobalt, Ontario, it was only fitting to bestow this building once used to store blasting caps for the mine just up the road with a new life. With the goal of preserving the history and culture of the town while serving as a new hub for arts and culture the Bunker has been home to CAYAC (Cobalt and Area Young Artist Collective) for the past 2 years, renewing Cobalt for the next generation. After a fantastic show with many visitors, many of whom were local Cobalt residents and first time gallery goers this will no doubt not be the first of many.

My Inspirations....

My Inspirations....

A few of my recent inspirations have undoubtedly come from the area I live. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by endless northern wilderness as well as our local historical town of Cobalt Ontario that provides so much..
