About the work

A variety of vintage magazines come together in this piece to depict a woman’s experience in the world. A large central focus on the vagina, snippets of “advice”, and media depictions of western standardized beauty add to the overall theme. The central image invokes recognition of both intrinsic beauty and societal disgust with the juxtaposition of the bright and bubbly images against the blacks and greys. The soft female hand caressing her own hair laden labia, an act so starkly taboo in our prudish and uptight culture.
