About the work

"And Then I Could Breathe" is a large gestural format non-objective abstract, on canvas. Underpainting of graffiti-inspired marks with gold metallic spray paint, swirls and seemingly random lines in carbon pencil is set with archival satin varnish. Darlene Watson adds unlikely bold hues side by side creating an informal gestural gathering of powerful colour.
The entire wonderfully free-spirited abstract is intuitively and emotionally created by Watson with her hands.
Acrylic mixed media on canvas inspired by nature and the world around Darlene. It could be the simplest of the colour of a leaf or as in-depth as an imagined colour combination. Darlene Watson often works with hues that are not entirely used together. This is the challenge that Watson loves to create magical, unique, bold and daring of kind originals.
