Location: Pebble Beach, Lake Superior. Ontario. Canada
Notes: Watercolour painting. on Arches 140lb cold pressed paper. Jackfish is a ghost town in northern Ontario, Canada, located on the north shore of Lake Superior east of Terrace Bay. The last spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) track between Montreal and Winnipeg was driven west of Jackfish on May 16, 1885. This is a painting of Beach Peas (Lathyrus japonicus). While hiking on Pebble Beach, which is east of the abandoned town, I often see these native legumes. They typically grow on sandy or rock storm beaches. They are edible, but caution should be used as the pods do contain an acid that can be dangerous. The deep purple flowers are a beautiful contrast to the background.
