A nostalgic road trip is a strong element of the image Santa Monica. Hyper-real effect of the metallic paper and the artist's strategic choice and placement of signage add humour, questions reality and seduces us into the dreamlike landscape. What is exactly happening here?
The Green Palm series is a humorous approach on urban landscape. The series explores the beauty of nature's palms with litter in our line of vision questioning what are we really contributing to urban culture. "Santa Monica" is part of a series of photographs taken while the artist was living in Los Angeles. Looking at these images, we feel as if we’re on a road trip, gazing up at the serene palm trees that reach toward the infinite blue. The combination of analogue on-camera filtration, Photoshop and metallic quality paper all add to the surreal effect.
