Biography
Ann Saint-Gelais visual and digital artist

Ann Saint-Gelais was born in 1950 in Saguenay and as far as she can remember tells us her journey...
Her father, when she was a child, drew horse heads for her on match boxes... and at the age of three she copied the small comics from the regional newspaper.

It was probably at this time that his passion for drawing and painting began to germinate in his mind. At the age of eight, she took her first courses in oil painting on easel at the Centre National d' Exposition de Saguenay where she was surrounded by music and classical dance and it is for her, the awakening to the Arts. Very early in her childhood she was sensitized to music by her mother who is a talented pianist. In primary and secondary school she is often given the task of decorating the blackboards that she covers with frescoes with color chalk and if there is a play on the program she is part to make the sets... That's how art definitively enters his life... Subsequently, Ann Saint-Gelais chose to study plastic art at the Cégep de Chicoutimi and a Baccalaureate at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi as well as a certificate in Art History. She finished her studies in 1978.

In her practice, she addresses several facets of the field of the arts. In parallel with her artistic creation, she works in graphic design and she does surface treatments as well as trompe-l'oeil in the field of art decoration. It can be said that Ann Saint-Gelais is a multidisciplinary artist. In her career she has practiced drawing, painting, sculpture as well as trompe l'oeil, computer graphics, installation, photography and object design. In the 1990s, she made installations from recovered furniture parts by modifying and transforming their original aspects.

For about forty years Ann Saint-Gelais practiced the arts and taught it. In the region, her works have been exhibited at the National Exhibition Center of Jonquière, the Centre des Arts et de la Culture de Chicoutimi, the Musée du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, the Musée Louis Hémond in Péribonka du Lac St-Jean, the Galerie l'Oeuvre de l'Autre of the UQAC, the Galerie

Represented by the Galerie la Corniche de Saguenay for about thirty years, Ann Saint-Gelais has decided to act as a free agent and to welcome her audience at her home-workshop, by appointment. [email protected]

During all these years of practicing his art, several collectors in the United States, Germany, France and Canada have acquired his works.
