My artistic approach and description of my technique

More than 20 years ago, I had the opportunity to view an extensive collection that belonged to an important art collector. I was profoundly fascinated, moved and overtaken by the works of art presented to me on that occasion. I felt like being struck by lightning upon discovering the set of plastician works and paintings created by Jean McEwen. I was so filled with emotion and wonderment that I purchased a small Jean-Paul Jérôme painting. I wanted to live with this piece of art in my environment, and I spent many hours admiring it. Assuming that if someone can paint something so beautiful I could do it too, I purchased brushes, canvas, acrylic paint... and I began to work with passion. While I was fascinated with the sharp shapes and pure colors that plastician artists used to present, I quickly felt the need to create something very different. I kept a certain plastician-type technique, but started to create figurative woodland and city scenes, energized by whimsical and funny characters. My professional training and practice as a psychologist presently contribute to the inception of a series called ''A Psy Fantasy''. Very often I take several days to draft on the canvas the design to be painted later, while imagining the colors to choose.

Although I still use this technique occasionally, in 2005, I decided to engage into the second spontaneous passion triggered by my visit to the great collector. Jean McEwen's works of art, their pictorial composition, their color balance and their use of textures enabled me to get into a distinctly abstract form of artistic expression, through the use of mixed-media techniques that give greater emphasis to oils and textures. On constant search for my own reality, I fully explore the technical and material resources, as well as chromatic venues. In 2012, I started to develop a new technique which consists of dropping pigments on diluted resin layers upon a canvas that was beforehand textured with Gesso and tinted with acrylic colors. I call these assemblies my ''Mosaics''.
