Isabelle Hughes

Hi, I’m Isabelle Hughes, a fine artist from Ottawa/Gatineau (Canada).I turned to art in 2019 while recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury. Painting was something I could focus on that brought me peace and joy in a time of healing. It helped me cope with my daily cognitive struggles and kept me out of an emotionally dark place.   

The act of painting and visualizing peaceful places in nature is healing for me; my paintings reflect those calm feelings and places that are found deep in my imagination that bring me comfort and strength.

Through my art, I want to help others heal by transmitting soothing and peaceful feelings. I want to bring joy and tranquility into people's homes. As an artist, I also hope to raise awareness about the prevalence of concussions, the stigma associated with this invisible injury, its challenges, and the importance of providing more services and support at every stage of the recovery process.  

I find inspiration in the soothing vibes of the ocean and in the healing powers of nature.
I enjoy painting seascapes, semi-abstract whimsical landscapes and loose watercolour botanicals. My favorite medium is oils; I love how they glide, blend, and don’t dry fast.   I was initiated to painting through watercolours and will always have a deep love for watercolour mediums.

When I'm not painting, I feel the most at peace when I'm on the water or by the ocean.
