Jonathan Cloutier

[Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and a graduate in applied international law and politics, I have been working as a part-time surrealist painter since 2018. Having worked in the field of international cooperation and community organizations, I was led to travel a lot and my works are for me a continuation of these travels. Not necessarily in the themes they address, but rather in the sense that they represent to me a journey of exploration into my own questions, my own imagination and sometimes even that of others.

As an oil painter, my style is mainly defined as surrealist, allowing me to combine my more technical and precise qualities in portraiture and hyperrealism with my thirst for creativity and my quest for meaning.

My paintings represent to me the possibility of expressing so many unknowns, questions and dreams, where mysticism married to surrealism allows me to create a world bigger than myself. A dream world not limited by the sense of self as an ego. A world aspiring to the greatness of the transcendent reality that unites all things, where I can discover myself and give others the possibility, I hope, to discover themselves a little as well.
