Animal Portrait Experimentation

I wanted to explore the process of using paper and mixed media to create interesting backgrounds for animal portraits, creating a story book kind of feel. I choose animals that have a lot of spirtual significiance and they are part of my 'Animal Spirit" series.
I started playing with paper creating block panels and tied it together by painting the inbetween spaces. Soul Seacher was was my first experimentation with placing an animal on a mixed media background. Ravens are known to be intelligent and curious and are a connection to the spirit world as a representation of a person’s soul.
