I, Ukrainian artist Lu Sakhno, was born in a remote village in the Kyiv region of Ukraine. My entire childhood was filled with the colors of sunrises and sunsets, sounds, and scents of nature. Insects and flowers, cows and campfire smoke, webs on an apple tree and the smell of warm black earth... But God has already created all of this. What can a person do? - so thought the dreamy blond girl, sitting on the windowsill of the open window of her room, contemplating the endless green sea of juicy grass.
Many years later, having already graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Kyiv, I often returned to this question in my creative work. What can a person do, what is my vocation, but now there was more confidence that there is a story, and yes, it is Art. Design work did not bring the desired feeling of freedom, and like many other Ukrainians, in 2014 I had a rethinking of my own and civic values. This is the great and bloody year of the Revolution of Dignity, the year of the Maidan. Since this year, art has filled my every day. Regular personal and joint exhibitions began, painting became for me an important factor in communication with people.
The language of art is clear and expressive, the power of art is extremely great.
8 years of living art, 8 happy creative years ended in one day. Russia attacked Ukraine. WAR. At this moment, it is as if everything that gave meaning to your life is cut off alive, and you seem to die while living on. When you see all the pain and suffering of Ukrainians, seething with hatred for the enemy, for this blind and cruel force of the terrorist country of Russia, fleeing from the war, after 4 months of wandering around Europe, you still decide to settle in Canada. Now I live and work in St. John's /Newfoundland and Labrador/
