Marie Huot

Born in Boischatel, now residing and working in Quebec City, I have has always had an artistic sensibility and practice painting for many years now. I express my inexhaustible fascination for the sky and my need for space in simple and airy compositions, from which stand out urban elements set up in omnipresent skies. You can also note in my pictural phrase luminuous skies and urban even industrial silhouettes, frequently revealed by strong back light.

After several years of self-taught learning, I managed to get the useful tools to polish my style and assert my esthetic choices without compromise.

The main part of my artistic approach stands in the contrast richness and the simultaneous and opposite presence of natural and built, of which I try to translate imbalance or harmony. I am also inspired by the various and often improbable skies shades that different seasons and hours of the day have to offer. Pictures or simple flashes printed in memory make it a rule for me and show me the way to go, pictures that are then interpreted by my creative gesture. I put a resolutely suburban look on the landscape. Oil is my favourite medium.

With the same passion, I also love to do abstract paintings, obviously influenced by the mid century brutalist artistic movement, giving a way to go to a different creative impulse where verticality can yet be found.
