Melina D'Meza

I come from Haiti, and was born in the capital, Port-au-Prince. I became interested in drawing in my teens, which led me to take drawing and painting lessons in the 90s with my teacher Jean-René Cangé,

In 2002, I emigrated to Canada and took part in my first group painting exhibition with the Mosaïkart gallery. The cultural diversity of this gallery gave me an enriching experience in exchanging with artists from all over the world.

My mediums are pencil, pastel and paint. My work is very much inspired by human anatomy, nature, landscape and the ocean. For me, atmosphere is important in a subject; it's like a scene where the viewer is invited to participate.

My paintings are imbued with warm, soft colors. I paint in oils and acrylics, and like to compose my own colors from primary colors, which is always a new discovery for me!
