How to create acrylic textured background

Acrylic backgrounds will add multi-dimensional texture to your paintings before ever applying paints.

Prepare a paste using gesso and modeling paste.
Experiment with the ratio of those two components to get a desired consistency of the paste.
More liquid paste may crack during the drying process which will give a more compelling look to your final work.
Use palette knives and other tools to apply prepared paste on your canvas.
With free strokes make various shapes and texture to your background
Let it dry, it usually needs couple of hours, to be on a safe side leave it overnight
Start applying color layers on top of your background
