Born in 1978. Lives and works in Montreal. After studied cinema and graphism Olivier Saint-Gelais graduated in fine art at Concordia university. He is inspired by some master of portrait like whistler, Bonnard, Munch or Marion Wagschall. He draws is subject in popular culture who nourish is youth years and his imagination. The ambition of the artist is to combine the techniques of classical painting with actual era mind. He is interested by great iconic figure of après-guerre period until the end of 20th century. Saint-Gelais search to create a melancolic feeling or a some kind of ghostly memorial print. There are proximity with photographic art and with the mediatic process picture. He search to create a kind of evanescence linked to missing time and the creation of media myths.
