Kui Wang

In 1982, I received my Bachelors degree in Fine Arts at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Changqing, China. I then decided to stay at the Institute to teach for the next 5 years, until I was selected as one of the three participants for the government exchange student program to move to the Banff Center of Fine Arts in 1987. I stayed in Banff Center of Fine Arts for one year, which gave me an opportunity to gain awareness of the significant influence of western culture on art. Since then, I have been expanding my horizons in art by constantly improving my skills and experimenting with new techniques in my studio.

Throughout the course of my art career, I have been actively taking part in competitions and as a result I was nominated for the Governor General's Award in 1996 and in the same year, I was short-listed for a Governor-General's Award for Children's Literature Illustration for the book "The Wise Washerman" featured on cover of the Hyperion Press 1996 book list. In 2001, I produced 3 Christmas cards and calendar images for the 2002 calendar for the Alberta Ballet commission.
